ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY
Ted Wirth once described the profession of "landscape architecture" as the "architects of the land." As such, we plan, design and strive to protect and enhance our environment through environmentally appropriate solutions. Sustainable landscape architecture can refer to the creativeness, the durability, maintenance, fiscal responsiveness and basic common sense. Rencently the words "sustainable," "green," and "LEED" are commonly used to promote the latest trends in design. Fortunately, for landscape architects, these buzzwords are not the latest trends, but they are a part of a landscape architect's basic education and philosophy. It was not until recently that these core values have been documented and marketed to the world.
Peaks to Plains Design embraces these core values and principles. Our approach to design must include comprehensive thought and discussion about the elements that lead to enduring landscapes. We believe that every project must be designed appropriately, installed correctly and maintained efficiently. These are the core goals for our projects.
Our approach to fulfilling our environmental responsibility includes services in the following areas:
Native or naturalized plant selection, appropriate for the ecology of the space;
Design of efficient irrigation systems;
The specification of local materials (i.e. stone);
Context-sensitive design strategies;
Adaptive re-use of stormwater; and
Continuing education in innovative technologies and strategies.
Peaks to Plains Design is experienced in the LEED certification process.
