The Bozeman Gateway, Bozeman, Montana

Mitchell Development Group

Implementation of the plan began in 2007. Peaks to Plains Design collaborated with the developer and civil engineers to develop a unique design aesthetic with the pedestrian and vehicular bridges. We discussed the use of precast concrete culverts, with a facade consisting of an architectural finish. We recommended the use of laser-cut metal guardrails as a unique element of the development. The developer worked with a metal artisian to incorporate a final design. The open space areas incorporate storm water facilities and the use of bioswales for stormwater treatment and is integrated between multiple utilities and complies with the highway clear zone requirements.

The first tenant, a Rosauers grocery store, incorporated an outdoor dining area designed by Peaks to Plains Design that supports its deli and cafe as an amenity to their development.

AWARD WINNER: The Bozeman Gateway has won a 2009 Beautification Award for Excellence in the category of Inviting Entryway from the Bozeman Beautification Advisory Board. The Board deemed that the efforts set forth by the developer to exceed the City of Bozeman development standards and believes that the significant work is worth of public recognition.

The project was in conjunction with Morrison Maierle, Inc., Carter Burgess and Peaks to Plains Design.

Intermountain Distributing, Billings, Montana

A&E Architects

Peaks to Plains Design was contracted by A&E Architects to create and landscape and irrigation plan for the new home of Intermountain Distributing. The landscape plan had to be in conformance with local zoning laws, clear of a major oil pipeline, wildlife tolerant plantings and aesthetically pleasing from Interstate 90.

Our landscape plan was designed with the colors of the building in mind, areas that needed to be screened, and to be aesthetically pleasing from the roadway and from the building. A row of ornamental grasses were placed between the chain link fence surrounding the loading dock and the sidewalk. This was to help soften the hard surface that the chain link fence creates. A large landscape bed was created at the entrance to the parking lot to create a sense of arrival. A bed was created on the west side of the building to create a space for employees to have a lunch outdoors and to provide a pleasant view from within the building. Peaks to Plains Design also worked with the client to select a plant palette that would be tolerant or resistant to vast population of deer that is within the area.

Fergus County Credit Union, Lewistown, Montana

The Fergus County Credit Union acquired three undeveloped lots adjacent to their bank facility. They hired Peaks to Plains Design to develop some schematic concepts that included site layout for employee parking, a picnic area, snow storage, efficient irrigation design, low maintenance plantings, boulders and berms.

In addition, Peaks to Plains Design coordinated with the local Department of Transportation office on site access, evaluated the possibility of bank signage and provided budgetary cost estimates for implementation of the project. The client then selected the best elements from the three plans and procured a contractor for implementation.

Site Planning and Design, Buffalo, Wyoming

Buffalo Chamber of Commerce

The Buffalo Chamber of Commerce has partnered with the City of Buffalo to create a Gateway Park at the entrance to their community. Peaks to Plains Design provided master planning and construction document services for the Gateway Park. Through a TEAL grant, the plaza will incorporate a water feature, signage, interpretative opportunities and public art. This portion of the project will be constructed in 2009 through WYDOT.

Meanwhile, the Chamber of Commerce wanted to evaluate the possibility of relocating their offices and/or a visitor center to the remaining portion of the site. Peaks to Plains Design provided two conceptual plans that outlined parking, a building footprint and an additional outdoor gathering area. The final plan served a vital role in the strategic planning of the Chamber's future operations.
